This page covers the Pair & Sync website, the web app at app.pairnsync.com and the Pair & Sync Android app. Pair & Sync is run by Gokul. Questions or requests: iamgokull10@gmail.com.
What never reaches us
Your video goes straight from one device to the other over an encrypted WebRTC connection. We never receive, store or see the video, its file name, your chat, your reactions or your subtitles. We keep no watch history on our side.
What our server handles, and for how long
- The room: its 6-character code, the display names and colours you two chose, and whether the host let the guest in. Only while the room is open; it's deleted when the host leaves or after 30 minutes with nobody connected.
- Your IP address, briefly: to stop people guessing codes, wrong guesses are counted per address and forgotten within 10 minutes. To share the relay fairly, we count relay use per network using a hash of the address mixed with a random value that changes daily and is never shared; past days are deleted.
- The relay: when your two devices can't connect directly, the encrypted connection passes through Cloudflare's relay. It can't read what passes through. We count how much each session uses, to keep the service free.
- Anonymous counts: for each session, whether it connected, whether it was direct or relayed, which watch mode it used and, if it failed, why; and when it ends, how smoothly it played: how many times the video stopped to load, for how long, and how long you waited before it started. No names, codes, addresses or anything about what you watched.
- Crash reports: if we turn on error reporting (Sentry), a crash in the web app or the Android app may send a technical error report: what went wrong in the code, and the device and browser or Android version. It never includes file names, chat, video, screenshots or recordings of your screen.
On your device
In the browser, your name, colour and settings are kept until you clear the browser's data.
The Android app keeps these on your phone only, never on our server: your name, colour and settings; your watch history (video title, size, where you stopped, who you watched with) for Continue together; recent partners (their display name and colour); the shared watchlist you keep with each partner, which is exchanged directly between your two phones; and, only if you switch on "Save this chat on this phone", that session's chat. Hold an item to remove it, use Clear history or Delete all, or uninstall the app to remove everything.
A guest's copy of the video (Download first, or the copy a Stream guest keeps as it watches) is deleted when the session ends, or the next time Pair & Sync opens if it was closed or crashed. Notifications, if you allow them, are made and shown on your device; their text isn't sent anywhere. While a session is open the Android app shows an ongoing notification, so the connection keeps working with the screen off.
Services we use
- Cloudflare hosts the site, the app and the server that introduces your devices, and runs the relay.
- Google Fonts serves the website's and web app's fonts, so your browser asks Google for them. The Android app has its fonts built in.
- Expo delivers updates to the Android app; the app asks for them when it opens, sending only technical details: the app's version and platform, and a random ID for this installation that isn't linked to you.
- Google Play distributes the Android app, under Google's own privacy policy.
- Sentry, only if error reporting is on, receives crash reports as described above.
- Buy Me a Coffee handles tips if you choose to support Pair & Sync. The "Buy me a coffee" link just opens their site; nothing passes through Pair & Sync, and their own privacy policy applies there.
Children
Pair & Sync isn't meant for children under 13.
